Five years after suspending service to Cape Town in South Africa, UK-based carrier Virgin Atlantic is returning to a market currently dominated by British Airways. This month's analysis also looks at Aeroflot's planned return to Singapore after 17 years away and Air Senegal's expansion in Europe. Virgin Atlantic plans to fill a void left by the collapse of UK tour operator Thomas Cook by relaunching nonstop daily flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and Cape Town (CPT). The seasonal route, operated by a three-class Boeing 787-9, launches on Oct. 25, complementing the carrier's existing service to Johannesburg. Virgin began flying to CPT in 1999 but ended service in April 2015 as part of a reshuffle of its network. However, it continued flying to Johannesburg and began a second daily service in October 2018.
