Although the speech was intended as a call to action to the world's governments, the aviation industry would do well to act as if the words were directed squarely in their direction. After all, Thunberg has singled out air transport by refusing to fly, citing the "enormous climate impact of aviation," and hitching lifts on emissionless private yachts to get across the Atlantic for a meeting with the UN assembly. The industry's response has been disjointed and inconsistent. LCCs, including Ryanair and Wizz Air, have publicly pointed the finger at legacy carriers, while legacy carriers claim LCCs stimulate air travel demand at below real prices.
