Recently I saw a video of smiling air travelers riding motorized carry-on bags through an airport. My first thought was that the video would be more realistic if the people weren't smiling so much as they headed to their gates. My next thought was "there goes another lithium battery." I don't know if motorized carry-on bags are going to catch on, but the growth of so-called "smart luggage" seems to be a real thing. There are a variety of smart bags on the market. The ones I looked at that were small enough to serve as a carry-on generally contained a built-in lithium battery pack for charging your portable electronic devices, a global positioning system-based device that enables you to track your bag's location and a remotely controlled, electronic locking feature.
