On Oct. 30, FAA launched a new drone integration initiative called BEYOND to tackle issues not addressed in its three-year Unmanned Aircraft System Integration Pilot Program (IPP), which concluded on Oct. 25.One of the issues to be addressed in the BEYOND initiative is community concerns about drones. Asked if the BEYOND program will address drone noise, FAAprovided the following statement:“As part of the IPP, the FAA partnered with DOT's Volpe National Transportation Systems Center to collect noise data about the types of UAS the IPP Lead Participants were using in their testing and flight operations. The noise collection team made one trip to the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) and successfully collected measurements for CNO's large variety of drones. The team had planned trips to more of the IPP locations, but those visits had to be cancelled at the onset of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
