Members of the House Quiet Skies Caucus told FAA Administrator Steve Dickson in a March 10 letter that they have “deep concerns” about the results of FAA’s recently-released survey of aircraft noise annoyance. They asked the FAA chief to explain how the agency plans to proceed in light of the survey results. FAA’s updated dose/response curve for aircraft annoyance, which is based on the new annoyance survey data, predicts that about five times as many people in the 65 DNL contour will be “Highly Annoyed” by aircraft noise compared to the dose/response curve currently used by the agency to determine significant noise impact.
