Some 12 projects in Phase Ⅲ of the FAA’s Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions and Noise (CLEEN) Program include aircraft noise reduction goals. Most of these projects continue the decades-long work to find ways to eke out relatively modest noise reduction benefits (0.5-3 EPNdB) that produce a cumulative improvement over time in aircraft noise reduction. But two of the CLEEN Ⅲ projects with noise reduction goals stand out for their potential to provide significant noise reduction benefits: one in reducing the level of aircraft engine noise and the other in reducing community exposure to aircraft noise.
