The European Union (EU) has agreed to fund 50% of a new €2 million intermodal centre currently being built at Sicily's Fontanarossa International Airport. When completed in December 2012, the complex will connect the Catania located gateway to local road and rail networks. The rail links will include the city's Circumetnea metro line, a high-speed service to Palermo and the Messina-Catania-Syracuse line. The €1 million in EU funding will come from the Trans-European Transport Network Executive Agency (TEN-TEA).
