Maho Beach is a small stretch of sand off the west end of Runway 10 at Princess Juliana International Airport (IATA: SXM/ICAO: TNCM—Airways, May 2011, December 2010, October 2002; Mailbag, July 2004; Reviews, August 2004). At the south end of the beach is the very popular Sunset Bar and Grill, a focal point for most of the happenings on the beach. The bar is, literally, a few hundred feet from the runway threshold. Tourists and locals by the hundreds flock here most days to enjoy the sun, sand, food, drink, entertainment, camaraderie, and—most of all—the spectacular sight of large jetliners landing and taking off in a unique setting.There has been a bar at this end of Maho Beach for more than 20 years, originally associated with the adjacent Caravanserai Hotel. In the mid-Nineties the hotel was closed, and consequently the bar was also out of business.
