In July of last year, our esteemed contributor Matteo Legnani flew to Dubai to meet flydubai, the low-cost sister of one of the largest, most luxurious, and most successful airlines in the world: Emirates. Flying to more than 90 destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Russia, and Eastern Europe, flydubai obviously requires a large number of Pilots, Flight Attendants, ground crew, and support personnel working together to operate as well as it does. Flydubai's operations had been impeccable, with a flawless safety track and some of the world's newest fleets of Boeing 737-800s-one of the most reliable aircraft in commercial aviation history. But then came the tragic March 19, 2016, accident in Rostov-on-Don, where, inexplicably, the airliner plunged onto the runway, killing all 62 souls on board.
