In its 1945 presentation before the CAB in the Southeastern States Case, Southern Airways displayed its plan of scheduled service along with exhibits demonstrating its fitness and ability to begin operations. The map of proposed routes showed a system that would serve 59 airports in seven states. This was exactly what the feeder concept was designed to do: provide service to many smaller cities and towns between major airports. Southern's initial plan covered six lines. The first (Route A) was from Memphis to Charleston, South Carolina, via 12 intermediate stops.
