Check-in at FCO for this midnight departure (actually 2359) was handled very quickly. I was at the check-in desk just as it opened, four hours before departure, and was immediately given my boarding pass by the Qatar Airways agent. Next, I proceeded to Gate 32 in the extra-Schengen satellite with plenty of time to spare. It is regrettable that at Italy's major airport, most shops, restaurants, and cafes close for the night around 2100-2230, leaving little choice for passengers departing on late-evening and night flights.
