At 29,035ft (8,850m) amsl (above mean sea level), Mount Everest, part of the mighty Himalaya mountain chain in Nepal that includes eight of the ten highest mountain peaks on earth, stands above all others. Many people believe that the only way to experience good views of this mountain is to actually climb it. But the latter option is beyond the capabilities of most of us mere mortals, with the Everest's high terrain considered to be in the 'death zone' because of the extremely rarified air, especially above 8,000m (26,000ft).
