Five years into a three-way scrap for market supremacy between established airlines, charter carriers, and so-called 'no-frills' airlines, it is fair to say—at least from the consumers' viewpoint—that the term 'low-cost' is meaningless Within the UK's short-haul sector the inaccuracy of the term is especially noteworthy—simply because British Airways (BA), BMI British Midland International, or charter airlines can be cheaper than the low-cost/low-fare (LCLF) scheduled carriers (Airways, March 2003), with the 'best deals' available usually dependent on individual travellers' domestic and geographical circumstances.
