Walking across the tarmac at Chicago's Midway Airport, it was impossible to miss the SAAB 340B turboprop. Its paint gleamed under the ramp lights and the two four-bladed propellers were distinctive in the company of business jets. Inside, the cabins leather seats provided ample leg room and were complemented by thick carpeting and spotless sidewalk. Seatback pockets were free of trash often left behind by uncaring passengers, and the windows looked as if they had been permanently coated with Windex. The 20-year-old aircraft even smelled factory-fresh.
