By now, everyone is used to having to pay extra for those little amenities: room in which to move, real meals, etc. But what about chipping in for fuel, as those aboard Air France flight 562 recently were asked. Warned of serious demonstrations near Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport, AF Ops advised a diversion to Amman, Jordan. But, short on fuel, the crew opted for Damascus, Syria—a DAM bad choice considering (a) that country's civil war, (b) AF dropped service to Damascus in March 2012, and (c) that France's foreign minister declared Syria's President Assad "doesn't deserve to be on this earth."
