In recent years the tilt type rotary furnace has taken on a new look: It is now a highly efficient, automated piece of equipment using the latest developments in combustion, system control and furnace design (fig. 1). The old style open door "cement mixer" is now replaced by computerized controls, sealed door, and the latest generation of oxy/fuel burners. The high flame radiation of the oxy/fuel burner system and their capability to control furnace atmosphere makes the TTRF (Tilt Type Rotary Furnace) the most energy-efficient system available. The MDY 16 t TTRF can achieve a melt rate of over 6 times its holding weight or 100 t/day.
