Aluminium's success in modern automotive industry started in Europe several years ago in order to reduce the weight of sports and premium cars. More recently this trend has become a mass phenomenon, not least as car makers in the US are also increasingly turning towards lightweight construction by using aluminium as the material of choice. Tenova, formerly named Techint Technology, started the installation of continuous annealing and surface treatment lines for automotive market demands at the end of the 1990s by selling its first line in Sierre, Switzerland, for the aluminium plant formerly named Alusuisse. Nowadays, with the new trend and forthcoming regulations, a large number of new lines are starting productions and Tenova can be considered a leading supplier of such lines.
