Aerobal, the International Organisation of Aluminium Aerosol Container Manufacturers, has reported a record result for 2013. With output 2% up to more than seven billion cans, the industry continued its upward trend. Aluminium cans account for nearly 50% of the total worldwide output of aerosol cans. The further prospects for this packaging material are quite positive, says Aerobal secretary general Gregor Spengler. Whereas the European market seems compara- tively saturated, there is substantial potential for growth in the emerging markets of Asia and South America. About 80% of total production continues to go to cosmetics; the remaining part aims at the pharmaceutical and food industries.
