The demands for high precision and cutting quality in sheet production and processing are increasing in all sectors of industry, not least because the strips required have to be more and more flimsy. At this year's Euroblech trade show, Burghardt + Schmidt GmbH will be showing a high-precision slitting shear which has been fitted with very precise blade shafts and bearings and with systems for automatic strip tension control at the entry and on the winding side, specially so as to meet those needs. In this way the tension is kept constant at all times and even with strips from 0.05 mm thick upwards, low-burr cutting is achieved. For the simple assessment of cutting quality the company has also developed a mobile cutting-burr measuring unit which, without specimen preparation and without contact, measures the burrs within a few minutes and can produce surface profiles and 3D images. This uncomplicated technology works to an accuracy of 1 μm and enables prompt fault recognition even before the start of production.
