On 22 August, UC Rusal announced the restart of the Alpart and Windalco alumina refineries which were suspended on 18 August ahead of Hurricane Dean. The refineries remained undamaged as a result of the efficient precautions carried out by the refineries' technical service teams. At the end of August, after Hurricane Dean had passed Jamaica, UC Rusal donated US$1 m to assist the employees of Alpart and Windalco alumina refineries as well as the surrounding community institutions which suffered from Hurricane Dean.
