摘要

Increased efforts for optimum lightweight construction in the automobile and aircraft industries have generated a growing interest in extruded magnesium sections. Magnesium sections of the AZ alloy family were extruded by the direct, indirect and hydrostatic extrusion methods. The microstructure of the sections produced was then examined. The different specimens exhibited different microstructures and textures as well as different mechanical properties. In order to determine the deformation mechanisms of the extrudates during plastic deformation the micro-structures of the specimens were also examined after the mechanical testing. This paper discusses the difference in the microstructures and textures produced by direct, indirect and hydrostatic extrusion, as well as their influence on the resulting mechanical properties.
