Their simple design provides for quick assembly and disassembly, offering ease-of-transport around a job site. On the flip side, getting them to the job site can be a bit more complicated. Some self-erectors can't be transported with an accompanying trailer unit because they're not weight-rated for U.S. roadways. Liebeherr self-erecting tower cranes, for example, must be shipped on a domestic flatbed trailer, according to Jeff Allman, marketing services, Morrow. Once they're on a site, like airport tarmacs, expansive factories or power plants, they prove quite useful.
