Chile-based retailer Cencosud has announced it is to acquire the Colombiannassets of Carrefour in a deal worth US$2.5bn. The move comesnafter the firm raise additional capital through a share sale in Chile andnNew York (via American depository receipts), which we said at thentime was likely to be used to pay off debts and fund further expansion.nWe had speculated that the retailer was likely to be focused in Brazil,nwhere it has been investing heavily since entering the market in 2007.nHowever, the recent cooling of the Brazilian economy may have pushednthe firm to look elsewhere, with Colombia's consumer sector currentlynoutperforming its regional counterpart.
