UK-based drinks-can maker Rexam has announced plans to in-ncrease its capacity in Brazil by building a second production line nand upgrading an existing one. The move will increase the frm’s ncapacity in the country by 1.7bn cans and refects a desire to increase nits exposure to emerging markets, as well as the particularly strong ngrowth in Brazil’s soft drink and beer sectors. Rexam was hard nhit by the economic downturn, partly due a strategy of relying on na premiumisation trend in developed markets for growth, and we nexpect this investment to be part of a wider strategy of investment nin the world’s fast-growing emerging markets.
