The world is rapidly making the transition to the digital domain-consumer demand fueh the growth of Internet-based services such as on-line shopping and gambling, while businesses continue to generate more and more data every day. And more data means one thing: an increased need for effective data storage, often with always-on highspeed access, to ensure business continuity and enable efficient disaster recovery. Terrorist events, as well as recent natural disasters such as the Asian tsunami and the New Orleans floods, impressed upon the world the importance of protecting the data of both businesses and individuals. In addition, storage regulations now require corporations to adopt new data-retention and security policies, adding further to the level of storage required.
