After years of what can only be called basic neglect, undersea warfare has been experiencing a resurgence of interest following a long period when military funding was focused primarily on airborne and land-based operations such as those in Afghanistan and Iraq. Such renewed attention continues to be driven by China's increasing aggression in the South China Sea around the Spratly Islands, as well as aggressive rants coming out of North Korea. In response, existing undersea warfare systems inventories are being replenished and new technologies are being developed. This edition of Forecast International's "The Market for Undersea Warfare Systems" evaluates market trends and conditions for the years 2021 through 2030. (The relevant statistics were generated on June 17, 2021.) It is based on an examination of 32 companies, 100 distinct systems and programs, and 171 individual line item forecasts of systems and programs. This assessment concludes that the undersea warfare systems market (as defined in this study) will be worth at least $20.172 billion over the course of the 10-year forecast period. Note that because some programs and systems are not available for examination, such as classified programs, company-developed projects, and programs yet to be announced, the true value of the global undersea warfare market will likely be much higher. Forecast International's forecast is likely a minimum value.
