IT WAS A LOUSY PRACTICE airshow performance. Our maneuvers were crooked and our formations were sloppy. We lacked the U.S. Air Force's exactness, which as Thunderbirds, we took pride in representing. In a quest for a faster, tighter show with more precise timing, I had flown rough and unpredictably in the lead aircraft-characteristics fatiguing and unsettling to wingmen flying within 24 inches.
