AN AOPA-CHAMPIONED EFFORT to push real-time status of military operations areas (MOAs) and other types of special-use airspace (SUA) into aircraft cockpits is included in the National Defense Authorization Act. Led by Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), the top Republican on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, a provision in the act was included that requires the FAA and the Department of Defense to establish an automated real-time broadcast, similar to temporary flight restriction dissemination, on the real-time status of MOAs and restricted areas.
