AOPA chose Breitling's Navitimer as the association's official timepiece, with the AOPA wings on the watch's face. AOPA began offering the Navitimer at a special price beginning in 1954, and kept the Navitimer in this role for the next 14 years. In that time, AOPA Navitimers went through subtle changes. 1. The first Navitimers were designated as the model 806. They had black subdials and, until 1963, they had a "beads of rice" bezel consisting of 125 beads. Breitling Watch Corporation of America sold the first Navitimers, which bear a BOW mark on the movement. They had black lizard-skin straps. 2. The AOPA wings appear on the Navitimer in various versions. From 1954 to 1963, the letters AOPA are within the band on the wings' shields. Also in 1963, some AOPA Navitimers had the name Breitling in capitals above the wings. From 1963 to 1968, Navitimers had the AOPA wings on the face, but no AOPA lettering within.
