Senior Editor Dave Hirschman debunks the myth that flying lean of peak (in properly equipped airplanes) is dangerous and destroys engines in "Frugal Flier: So Wrong For So Long," on page 79. Hirschman goes one step further by comparing flight in two separate airplanes on lean-of-peak settings. Fly along in a Beechcraft Bonanza and a Cirrus SR22 and watch as the aircraft decrease fuel burn and extend engine life in this online video.
