In this paper we present the Floating Perfectly Matched Layer (Floating PML) where a "floating" PML is implemented within the solution space without making contact with the main PML walls. The Floating PML can be used as a terminating technique within the solution space of the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) Method. The formulation of the Floating PML is based on an optimized implementation of the Convolutional PML (CPML), which is discussed briefly in the Appendix. In this paper we present benchmark validation tests, applications using the Floating PML, as well as some advantages and disadvantages of this method.
