The refuel talk by Dr Greg Chapman - Growing Your Business: Why Architecture Businesses Stay Small and What You Can Do About Yours - was delivered to a packed Tusculum house on 16 October. There seemed to be tremendous interest in the topic and the lady next to me took copious notes throughout. The crux of this talk was Dr Chapman's advice to give up architecture and take up marketing. He says that this is how to grow your business: employ others to do the administration, the technical, even the architecture, enabling you to get out and sell. But if I was interested in marketing I would have studied it at university; I wouldn't have spent six years studying my chosen profession.
