Due to space and time restrictions, information concerning the Harris Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform (ANW2) was unfortunately received too late to be included in our article on the evolution of SDR - Defining Software-defined - found on page 16 of this issue. Most certainly worthy of mention, the ANW2 has been operated by US forces in Afghanistan on the company's AN/PRC-117G (photo) radios, and Harris is in the throes of developing a wideband version of its AN/PRC-152(C) using the same waveform. The ANW2 provides a mobile ad hoc networking infrastructure for shuttling voice and data through difficult terrain, including around buildings and mountains. The waveform allows each radio within the network to operate as a relay station, to help ensure signal delivery throughout the network.
