摘要

This paper has outlined the advantages and disadvantages of server and tape-based system based on costs and benefits. There are a of considerations in the selection of an appropriate server. The technical aspects are reliability, compression, quality, multi-channel input/output, control protocol, automation, networking, database management, expandability, compatibility, recovery plan, back-up strategy, disk space management and year 2000 compliance. The non-technical aspects are maintenance support, training, warranty, outcome of demonstration and comments from reference sites.
