No one would dispute the need to act to prevent bank robberies, and so the "no hats, no hoods, no sunglasses" policies have been adopted in different parts of the country. But mix in the factor of religious headgear requirements, and things aren't so straightforward anymore. A New Jersey bank recently ran into trouble when signage requesting that customers remove headgear before entering collided with Islamic requirements that women wear a hijab or similar items. The bank heard from the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, which requested removal of the sign, which included a picture of a woman wearing a hijab. This is not the first time this conflict in needs has arisen.
