For banks in the insurance market or considering getting in, the American Bankers Insurance Association, an ABA subsidiary, can be a valuable asset. One of the things that sets the association apart is its focus on advocacy. ABIA advocates to bring about positive changes for the industry in Congress and in state legislatures. Members also are invited to participate in working groups focused on key insurance issues and developments, such as lender-placed insurance, producer licensing, and captive insurance. In addition to its advocacy efforts, ABIA holds an annual conference, which is the only national event exclusively devoted to the bank-insurance industry. This year's event will be held Sept. 16-18 at the Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
