Thus far, much of this report has dwelled on bricks and mortar, and it is clear that branches remain very important to banking, perhaps even moreso than ever. And the final section of this report deals with technology. But let's not lose sight of something that will always be true: Community banking is people. Trite, but true. A branch without bankers is as useful as a shuttered factory. Bank technology without account relationships might as well be run by the Dept. of Motor Vehicles. Thus, finding the right people to make up the bank's workforce is critical. But many jobs in banking, even in community banking, are highly specialized.
