There was a moment when D'Auby Schiel felt like she was in Kansas. As she and her husband watched from inside the Ocean Springs branch of Community Bank, Coast, the roof peeled off from a store across the street, and, like something out of the Wizard of Oz, three rooftop air conditioning units were lifted into the air by the 140 mph wind. They hung there for an instant and then, thankfully, fell away from the bank. Hurricane Katrina raged around the Mississippi bank for 12 hours. Schiel is chairman and CEO of the $204 million-assets bank, part of Community Baneshares of Mississippi, a $1.5 billion, seven-bank holding company headquartered in Brandon, Miss.
