The latest available figures show that the sales revenue of China's electronics and information technology industries reached $226.5 billion (including software products) in 2003, 16% of China's GDP and a growth rate of 34% from 2002. The 2003-to-2007 compound annual growth rate of sales revenue for consumer electronics is forecast at 23.7%. With revenue from consumer electronics products reaching $40.2 billion in 2003, China is becoming more than a global manufacturing base as it expands its foundry and IC design industries. Buyers at the October China Sourcing Fair: Electronics & Components learned this when Global Sources project manager for Electronic Engineering Times-China, Eric Jiao, presented an outlook for China's consumer electronics industry, including market size, production and export product forecasts.
