Seoul―South Korea's gross domestic product rose 3.7% during the fourth quarter from a year earlier, as strong private consumption and solid investment helped cushion weak exports. For all of 2001, South Korea's GDP, or the value of all goods and services produced in a nation, expanded 3%, compared with 9.3% growth in 2000, Bank of Korea said. The 2000 GDP-growth figure was revised up from 8.8%. The fourth-quarter GDP growth was slightly below the 3.8% average estimate of economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires. Growth for all of 2001 matched their estimate.
