Hong Kong―A batch of luxury apartments in Beijing sold out in just days last month, surprising the developers and highlighting potential opportunities in the city's high-end housing market even as overall Beijing real-estate prices sag. Hongkong Land Holdings Ltd. said buyers took two weeks to snap up the first 100 apartments on offer at Central Park, a residential complex the company is constructing in partnership with private Chinese developer Vantone Group. The developers had expected the sales to take around six months, said Hongkong Land Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Sallnow-Smith. Until recently, luxury residences in Beijing have been targeted primarily at expatriate renters. The speed of the sales at Central Park and the fact that nearly all the buyers were Chinese citizens are indications a high-end niche is forming in the city's real-estate market.
