摘要

In this study, Lake Biwa sediment covering the last 130ka is examined by analysis of the abundance of microscopic charcoal. Based on the abundance variation, the last 130ka is di- vided into four periods: 130ka to 10ka, 10ka to 1.5ka, 1.5ka to A.D. 1920, and since 1920. Charcoal abundance was low between about 130ka and 10ka, which indicates that climatic variation has not greatly influenced the fre- quency of forest fires.
