The commissioning of air conditioning systems is a complex and vital part in ensuring the functionality of the building and the air conditioned space. A correctly commissioned system provides a range of benefits to the building owner, including better and cheaper operation, less call-outs, etc. The management of the commissioning process is used to ensure that the objectives of the key players in the construction process are achieved. This makes this management process undertaken an important factor for both the client and consultant. The following paper outlines the basic elements of the process to be followed from the point of view of both the client and the consultant. The management processes need to fit the specific requirements of each project and the needs of both the client and consultant. The client needs to manage the consultant and any in-house staff to prove the commissioning process, where as the consultant needs to manage the sub contract to ensure the commissioning has been completed to the design and any problem quickly resolved. The consultant also needs to manage the client to ensure that they are confident with the outcome and feel that they have received value from the consultants' involvement.
