Strong activity in auto and leisure retailing has seen Super Retail Group report a 46.1 per cent jump in net profit after tax for the 2011 financial year. The group also invested 848.3 million into new and refurbished stores, and reduced its net debt by $5.3 million. SuperCheap Auto continued to perform well for the group with strong like for like sales growth of 4.8 per cent, maintaining the rate of growth delivered over the last four years. According to managing director Peter Birtles, the increase in sales and profit results reflects the strength of the group's resilient business model and was achieved despite cutbacks in retail spending. "New stores, solid like for like sales growth and a strong improvement in gross margins are the major drivers of these results," he says.
