It is often said that auto recycling is a global industry. Sometimes it's hard to see that in the daily grind of buying cars at the right price and selling parts (and increasingly materials) to generate sustainable profits. But global it is, and the sooner that participants realize their business has influencers (good, bad and indifferent), where these come from, and where they may be going, the better they can future-proof their business. The key stakeholders in our industry (OEMs, insurers, auctions, data vendors, and increasingly repairers) along with important revenue channels (scrap and cores) are all global in nature. Parts themselves tend have more value at a local or regional level, but more and more recyclers are looking globally to sell parts with eBay and Amazon, and the existing and emerging online parts markets like Car-Part.com, EDEN and PartCycle all help facilitate trade outside of what was once considered you local.
