Yep, 2009 is almost here, and I'm willing to bet 75 percent of you do not have a written plan for the upcoming new year, much less a plan for the future. As I ask owners how their business is going, many blame the economy for falling short of their expectations. Going a little deeper, I ask to see the 2008 written plan to see where they really fell short. Again, over 75 percent do not have a written plan. Without a monthly written plan, it is near impossible to take corrective action early to insure you reach your annual goals. This means that going into January you must have your plan written with footnotes to ensure you can manage something rather than react after it is too late. We encourage our clients to be completed with the planning process by December 1. This gives them 30 days to get a jump on the initiatives planned for in January. If your operation is running perfectly, you just need to add in the growing revenue numbers and appropriate costs. You're done.
