Part of the very nature of being arnprofessional fire and emergencyrnservices responder is to have thernsoul of a competitor. The jobrnitself is about competition,rncompetition against tragedy andrnloss. What motivates thernresponder to want to enter intornhorrible situations is a desire tornserve others and a hunger to win.rnThis is why when the responderrncan’t make the rescue or savernthe life, or the property is lost,rnthey take it personally. There isrnno way of escaping this; it is partrnof the job, as well as part of whatrndrives those who are called forthrnto serve. With that being said, thernone thing we can’t forget is thatrnthe profession is based upon thernteam that can work well together.
