To meet the LSA definition (and therefore be flown by a pilot ex ercising sport pilot privileges), an aircraft is limited to, among other things: 1. Carrying no more than two people; 2.120 KCAS maximum cruise speed; and 3. 1320 pounds maximum gross weight (1430 pounds for seaplanes/ amphibians). It's the weight limitation that gets many transitioning pilots, espe cially those who are "downsizing" from a high-performance single or a light twin. Weight drives wing and power loading, and conse quently performance, especially at the low-speed end of the spectrum.
