The government is in talks with Boeing and Lockheed Martin to determine how to transfer the former's work on a multibillion-dol-lar contract to develop secret imaging satellites to Lockheed Martin for a quick turnaround, according to sources familiar with the issue. The Bush administration notified Congress during classified briefings late last week that it would shift development work for the Future Imagery Architecture's (FIA) electro-optical satellites, according to an intelligence official. Electro-optical satellites are designed to capture high-resolution pictures of the Earth from space. Official notification to Boeing, the prime contractor for six years, is expected soon. The company was unable to adhere to the program's cost and schedule, prompting a review this month by National Intelligence Director John Negroponte.
