Being the main international gateway to the world's largest metropolis brings particular challenges for Tokyo Narita Airport. Chief among them is meeting capacity demand, which has prompted a range of initiatives designed to add peak-time slots and support ambitious long-term growth goals. The first step will be boosting hourly arrival rates, mainly by redesigning high-speed runway exits. Meanwhile, talks have begun with the government and local groups over more contentious projects such as changing nighttime curfews, extending a runway and even constructing a third one.
